About the Author
The Alameda Naval Air Museum is dedicated to preserving the rich history of NAS Alameda, and volunteers maintain exhibits and a library on three floors of the original air terminal. In addition to providing an educational experience about the air station for visitors and students, the museum is a resource for information and research on naval aviation in the Pacific. Author William T. Larkins is an internationally known aviation photographer, the author of eight books, and the 2006 recipient of the Admiral Arthur W. Radford Award for excellence in Naval Aviation History and Literature. As a 79-year resident of the area, he has assembled a unique collection of photographs and information.

An amazing collection of photos covering quite a range of time. Maybe a few too many pictures of airplanes, and not enough of the air station, but it does do a good job of documenting a topic that would otherwise probably be overlooked. I lived on the station in the late '60s. It was a good place to be a kid, and I remember it very fondly. This book did a nice job of bringing back good memories. If you were ever a resident there, you would probably like to have this book.
This is a great book on the background and history of Naval Air Station, Alameda. The fantastic photographs and explanations of these photographs are worth more than the price of this book. In 1946 when I was 6 years old, my family moved from Northern California to Alameda. At that time, my dad was hired at NAS Alameda as a civilian heavy equipment operator. He retired from NAS Alameda in 1958. I was a civilian employee from 1966 to 1987 at the Naval Aviation Depot in Alameda. Lots of personal memories and nostalgia regarding the City of Alameda, the Naval Air Station and the great people working and living there.
Great photographic history.
It was a great book to read if you have been raised there. Not sure if anyone else would enjoy it if they wanted to read history of Alameda.
Love these little books on American cities, towns, and places of interest. This one had quite some old-time historical background stories to tell. Enjoyed the whole book. Wish I had the whole collection.
My mother and I know Bill Larkins very well as my mother and father worked at Naval Air Station, Alameda. In fact my parents are in 2 pics in the book!!! This was a great purchase for Mom as we had trouble finding it and did not want to take a free copy from Bill, but he did autograph it for her the next time she saw him!
