For over 35 years, Joe Kimble has been leading the fight against jargon, legalese, verbosity, gobbledygook, and the persistent difficulty of legal language.He was one of the first to start a writing class in law school. Besides publishing books and articles on plain language, he has been the editor of the "Scribes Journal of Legal Writing" and the "Plain Language" column in the "Michigan law Journal." Thus began a remarkable career in legal communications that would benefit millions.Part Two, "The Elements of Plain Language," is a short introduction into how to write plain language. As Kimble mentions, "bare outlines are not enough: they have to be explained and illustrated..." The rest of the book has many before-and-after examples of plain-language treatments. As other reviewers have said, the reader can find more of the nut-and-bolts of plain language elsewhere.In Part Three, "Answering the Critics (by Dispelling the Myths)," Kimble is at his most vigorous, taking on the excuses that attorneys and others use to reject plain language.
