As to content, This is an excellent book, as to production, it is very, very disappointing.There are 61 stitch patterns, each with a color photograph, instructions and a chart for each. The stitches are grouped into Typical Stitches (ch 2), Color stitches (ch 3) and Lace Stitches (ch 4). The first chapter--Learning Charts--contains the 14 basic, named stitches. There is only one project in the book, Scarf, with a shopping list, gauge information, complete instructions, color photographs and a stitch chart. Very, very well done.This would be a five star book, but it is already falling apart, and it just arrived today! The quality of paper, the covers, and the content (including photographs) is excellent. Too bad the book is unusable because of the binding.I plan to photocopy the final chapter, General Instructions, because these are great reference pages. It would be so much better with a spiral or comb binding.
This is an ok stitch guide for those who know the basics of tunisian but honestly it would be better had there been more photo tutorials showing where to put your hook. The descriptions can be a bit confusing for anyone new to tunisian and even stump some of us who have been crocheting for many years.
I was a little disappointed in this book. I think it would be good for someone who already knows how to crochet with Tunisian hooks but wants to learn more complex stitches.I found the directions for the stitches incomplete and confusing as a newbie to this technique. I was hoping the pictures would make it easier to understand, but they did not. If I hadn't gone to the Internet, I don't think I would have been able to figure it out and probably would have let my hooks sit in a drawer and gather dust (or just use them as regular hooks).This book does have some value to the person just learning how to crochet with this technique. It has charts for abbreviations, symbols, yarn weights, pattern difficulty designations, and a US/metric conversion chart. I feel confident that I will use the book more once I've gained experience, but I was looking for something that would teach the very basics.
I only wish there were more. I am a crochet designer, and look forward to making something great with one of these stitch patterns. There are all types of patterns in this book, from textured, colorwor, lace, even pineapples!! There are many unconventional stitches here, you will not find these in most books on Tunisian crochet. A must have if you are into Tunisian crochet.
I like to work Tunisian stitch better than either knitting or crochet. (You may have seen that Tunisian is sometimes called one and sometimes the other because it is a hybrid--all stitches stay on a long needle as in knitting but that needle has a crochet hook at the end.) In the 70's it was called afghan stitch and patterns were cross-stitched on. This book has all kinds of variations on the Tunisian stitch. Instructions are clearly presented and pictures are good.
I'm new to Tunisian Crochet. This book makes it easy and simple. I've been having so much fun that I've almost completely ignored my regular crochet projects. Kim Guzman is an awesome person too. I have her as a Twitter friend and follower her projects and videos on Youtube. Its super easy to find extra info if you're confused about something in the book. Big thumbs up!!!
I'm just starting to learn Tunisian crochet so this book was perfect for me. I didn't want to buy an in-depth or expensive book if I hated doing Tunisian and then got stuck with it. It's got great info and pictures to get me started! I would recommend it to someone else trying to learn Tunisian crochet as well
I originally bought a different book when I was just learning and it was so advanced and complicated. I still can't figure out some of the stitches. I got this and its all visual, not just abbreviations. So easy. I can do almost every stitch now.
