Review

“The Reproductive Rights Reader offers a thoughtful, powerful, and provocative examination of fundamental questions, philosophies, and attitudes that inform and shape our discussion of these critical health care and public policy concerns.” -The Journal of Legal Medicine“At a troubling time in history when a conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court has called into question the constitutional protection of women’s health and equality, this book comes none too soon. The Reproductive Rights Reader gives us a uniquely comprehensive and useful collection of the major court decisions, legal briefs and scholarly commentaries on the searing debates about reproductive politics in US public discourse over the past 40 years. And it does so not only through the lenses of the law, science and public health but also with a clear focus on the critical dimensions of gender, race, class, sexuality, poverty, social exclusion and social justice. It is an absolutely indispensable resource.” -Rosalind P. Petchesky, author of Abortion and Woman’s Choice“This type of anthology bridges the sciences and humanities and narrows the divide between these two broad areas of study.” -Martha Chamallas,Moritz College of Law, The Ohio State University“Powerful and provocative, The Reproductive Rights Reader explodes the stale debate over the constitutional legitimacy of Roe v. Wade by bringing critical perspectives of race, gender and class to the question of women’s control over their reproductive lives. Taking seriously issues of substantive equality, this volume is essential reading for all those interested in human rights and social justice.” -Nancy Northup,President, Center for Reproductive Rights, and Lecturer-in-Law, Columbia Law School“The Reproductive Rights Reader is sure to be a vital resource to anyone who’s been following any and all of the many conversations that Ehrenreich brings to the forefront on reproduction policy in American society since Roe vs. Wade. . . . For those of us starved for a nuanced yet substantial exploration of the complexities of the reproductive rights in the U.S., The Reproductive Rights Reader delivers just that.” -Feminist Review

Very informative. The author attempts to give an unbiased perspective of the rights of women for modern law. She does seem biased and opinionated to some extent but I think this is probably difficult to avoid when discussing women's rights and welfare. I used this in a political science course and felt it was good for explaining the current state of affairs on these issues.

I needed this book for a class. Otherwise I probably would not have ordered it. It does give good insight of how many issues affect women.

I didn't want channeled info but something Christian Bible based. I was actually looking for information on the angel some call Metatron as what's on the internet is often channeled and one channel often seems to contradict what another has written on this angel. There wasn't much about this angel in this book, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot available on Metatron in accepted Jewish scripture so I didn't expect much anyway. I enjoyed this book overall. Billy Graham spent his life around the Bible so I figured he would write something that based on his understanding of what was actually written in the Bible. Graham writes honestly he has never seen an angel himself, but he believes in them because they are in the Bible. This book is written in an easy to read and relate to style. Graham reminds us that angels are not all fluffy and sweet as they are often portrayed in television shows and new age style books. Overall it seemed a fair and balanced representation for the layman and I appreciated it's balanced portrayal of the angels.

When I had questions about the nature and role of angels, my search led me to this book, written by none other than Billy Graham. The book covers many of the angels in the Bible. Originally written and published in the 1970s, when interest in demons and exorcisms and occult practices seemed to proliferate as never before, Dr. Graham wrote in response to his own need. Finding few books on the subject or angels both good and bad, he undertook the task of writing one.He delves thoroughly enough in this short work. Yes, each chapter is like a mini-sermon with an altar call at the end, and some may find this off-putting. However, this is the ministry of Billy Graham, unwilling that any should perish . What a wonderful, uplifting way to start my New Year's reading!

His is a thorough accurate , interesting over all reference book on Angels . It included some experiences of folks who have seen an angel or have been ministered to by Angel or angels . Having seen an angel myself , I can assure readers this is a real experience. The angel I saw did not have wings , was at least 7 feet tall , what's closed in white , and displayed a brilliance that appeared to me as bright light and a very penetrating facial expression. Awe-inspiring.

This book allowed me to find my way back to God. My interest and fascination with theology and specifically angels, brought me to this book. This book is an excellent reference of the most pertinent Scripture that allowed me to come back to my Christian faith and ask God for forgiveness of my sins against Him. A posthumous thank you to Reverend Graham for his dedication to our Lord and to helping those like me, find their way back to Him.

Except for the Bible, I love this book better than any one I've ever read. It has Bible verses throughout it, so you can read the scriptures for yourself , to show what the Bible says about angels. You will feel the presence of God and his protective angels, as you ready it. You will be overtaken with joy and thankfulness to God for His amazing love and grace. After a couple of friends read my book, it is going into my collection of books to leave to one of our heirs. If you have never thought about or believed in angels, I encourage you to buy this book. I promise you that you will not be sorry. When I first got it, I read 48 pages before I could lay it down. I truly believe you will love it.

This book is a no- nonsense look at angels in everyday life, in the past , and in the present , and it comes from a trusted source of information an evangelical preacher and teacher Billy Graham . He backs up his beliefs with biblical verses so that the reader can trust in his descriptions of angels as they help us through everyday life and will help us at the end of times.

This is the clearest picture of Angels I have ever read. It is clear and concise and full of Bible stories I can relate to in my everyday life. I am 80 years old and I thank God I am continuing to learn through the Bible and Bible study. I hope I am able to continue to learn and work for Jesus until I leave this world to be with my Lord and Savior.

Every Christian and Non-Christian should read this book. What God shares through Billy Graham's message can be life-changing if you read with an open heart and a clear focus on Him. This book as well as David Jeremiah's book on Angels are must reads if you're ready to grow in your relationship with the Lord God.

I enjoyed learning more about the biblical basis for angels presence in our daily lives. Billy Graham writes in a manner that inspires hope, joy and purpose in the fact that angels do exist in our lives.

#86,501 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

While the first few chapters of the first book were slow to drag me in, the story began to pull at my heart and pique my interest. The I was hooked. What a wild ride this story was. Its imagery and descriptions fuel the action so well. Loved this journey, pain and all.

An adventure I would take again and again. The best series I've read in a long time, with a balance of love, friendship, and intrigue.

Really enjoyable story, characters, and world building. Wish there were more!

This is a very fast paced and entertaining trilogy where each book is better than the previous one. In all honesty, I considered not continuing after the first one because, while it was certainly entertaining, the style was kind of YA-ish and I didn't see it having much by way of theme or sophistication (I was particularly bothered by the black and white good vs. evil divisions). It was definitely worth it to continue on. The second book is a delight in terms of character interactions and the third brings in more themes and moral complexity and ties things up in a very satisfying way (there are some mysteries left unexplained- but I see that the author intends to write more books in the same world, so perhaps we'll get answers later). One thing that I appreciated, which many readers may not, was how transparent the mechanics of the story are. The author is clearly very trope-savvy and she clearly clues you in on exactly which ones she's using and how exactly she might be subverting them. There are certainly some plot points that come as a surprise, but there are also a lot of clear set-ups where the suspense comes from wondering how this element is going to work into the whole. A downside of this is that it's easy to read into things and come up with some false positives for foreshadowing that might be deliberate red herrings or might be artifacts from previous drafts where things turned out differently or might just be errors. There are some readers who may be bothered that they can guess some plot points before they happen, but they probably can't guess all of them, so I don't think that's a serious flaw in the work. There are some predictable elements, but the series isn't overall predictable. Also, I'm noticing that a lot of negative online reviews of this series complain about Lila and call her a Mary Sue. I can sympathize if you find her annoying but she definitely isn't a Mary Sue. I mean, the term is used to mean a lot of different things, but I don't think she meets any of the serious criteria. Let me just go through it:- Author insert- no, Lila definitely isn't an author insert. I don't know the author personally, but based on her description she seems very different from Lila. And besides that, I can't imagine Lila having the patience to write one book let alone several.-Too perfect- no, Lila isn't perfect at all. She's a thief. She doesn't know what she's doing half the time. She's impulsive, which is sometimes a strength but also gets her into a lot of trouble.- The story revolves around her- no, Lila is of equal or lesser importance to the story compared to Kell. The spotlight is shared.-Overly powerful- she is very powerful, but she does lose fights and needs help sometimes-Everyone likes her- no, they don't.-Bland personality that any teenager can project themself into- Lila is bothering people by having too much personality or being too unrelatable if anything.-Wish fulfillment- nah, I don't see it.So you see, Lila fits none of the criteria of being a Mary Sue except for being a major female character with some power, which should not be a justification for condemnation.Really, Lila is mostly a gender-swapped version of the rascal outlaw trope. This is clear from her very first scene where she interacts with a wanted poster of herself that gets her gender wrong. The only things she does that a male character wouldn't do is worrying about/fending off sexual assault (not to a gratuitous extent in my opinion), befriending a dressmaker (probably a demonstration by the author that Lila's gender nonconformity is not a condemnation of more feminine women- because people are weird about that these days. Oh! But she is genuinely gender nonconforming without any hyperfeminine traits thrown in to "balance" her! That is rare.), and being attracted to men (I mean, it's rare for male characters, though obviously not unheard of- there are some gay/bi men in this by the way!). It's fine if you're annoyed by her, it's just that 1) she isn't a Mary Sue and 2) please don't hold her to a higher standard than you would a male character.Oh, and people complain about Lila being too emphatically a "strong independent woman who doesn't need anyone." Guys! You're supposed to pick up from her initial interactions with Barron that this is a lie she's telling herself! A lot of her character arc is about overcoming her fear of intimacy (and she doesn't get "tamed" as often happens with female characters with a similar starting point!). Do you complain about Shrek being too emphatically a strong independent ogre who doesn't need anyone? I thought not.

The new is not always better. One of the latest trends in fantasy and science fiction is to kill off a main character, and then bring him or her back to life through means not available for minor characters – or at least not applied by the authors. This trick allows writers to build up suspense by putting key characters in life-threatening situations which in most books must result in their somehow evading disaster but instead having them suffer and die. Then the author waves his or her hands, and voila, that crucial figure is restored to life, and the narrative.V. E. Schwab uses this trick several times in “A Conjuring of Light” (Tor, $25.99, 624 pages), the long and bloody conclusion to the Shades of Magic Series – and in addition, the premise for the existence of the powerful, inhuman embodiment-of-evil villain is such that there’s no reason another such monster couldn’t emerge the next day.As you might have guessed, I was not that thrilled with “A Conjuring of Light,” and the first two volumes – “A Darker Shade of Magic” and “A Gathering of Shadows” – were flawed as well. I stuck with them, hoping for improvement, but was not rewarded for my patience. Others, however, might not be so put off by the death-defying authorial sleight-of-hand in this pre-industrial world with magic, but even so, I would advise caution if the first book, “A Darker Shade of Magic,” doesn’t thrill you.
