This book is filled with colorful images, each representing 6 digits of the number Pi. To remember 600 digits of Pi, one has to remember 100 images in sequence, one after another. Sometimes the images are quite striking and easy to remember, such as "Count Dracula posing with a kazoo." Some images, however, are a little weak, such as "Riley pinning moss." Who is Riley? Judging from the drawing, he seems to be some kind of boy scout. The same problem occurs with some other names: Julie, Jack, Chad, Richie. More helpful are names like Tinker Bell, Buddha, Captain Nemo, Long John Silver. The book mentions the concept of the "memory palace," but I think "journey method" would have been more appropriate -- the drawings are like billboards along the route of one's journey through the book. Much more could have been done to strengthen the links between images. Often the only link is the position of a drawing on the page, and one is left to one's own resources. For example, I was having some trouble remembering what drawing followed Toto, the dog; I solved the problem by imagining that Toto bites Prince Charming on the chin (the next image). Overall, this was a good effort, and I enjoyed learning 600 digits of Pi with this book.
My kids are still enjoying it! We have a beanbag beside the bookshelf and I often find them with this book.
