Jennifer Palmieri was the Director of Communications for Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign. Prior to that position, she served as the White House Communications Director for President Barack Obama. She has also been the National Press Secretary for the 2004 John Edwards presidential campaign and for the Democratic Party in 2002. She is currently President of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, and she frequently appears on television and radio outlets.

A delightful book that gets right to the point and shares the authors authentic observations and advice going forward for any woman trying to lead in this world that was designed by men. My biggest takeaway — for years we have rewarded women who acted and led like men, what if we let them lead like women?
This book was one of the best and easiest books I’ve read. Loved Ms Palmeri’s wit and candor. She makes the reader feel what she felt as she went through the Hillary Clinton Campaign.You can read this entire book after dinner but you’ll go back and reread some of the parts where the author is feeling intense pain from all that is going on around her. At the same time she’s trying to get her candidate, her boss elected to the highest office in the land, as a woman! Great little book. Kudo’s to Jennifer Palmeri !
Very well written and a pleasure to read. Palmieri was communications director for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign. She was also President Barack Obama’s communications director. The book is an open letter to the women who will run the world, and specifically to the first woman president. It is written from her various experiences but mostly from the campaign. One major thing she learned: if she were to do it again, she would encourage the candidate to do it a woman’s way, not try to be a female facsimile of the qualities of a male president. Her book encourages the first female president and all women in whatever positions to speak up, realize you will draw fire, embrace your battle scars, and most of all–even when you lose, don’t be defeated.
I wish I had this book earlier in my career. I would have had understood why my leadership was viewed as being b****y and my male peers' leadership style was viewed through positive lens. Forthright, candid, strong, and real leadership were the adjectives associated with them. I would have understood that the implicitness was interwoven into our society. O would have been less.........perplexed. Thank you for helping my sons and daughters with this personal letter.
This may be a good read for someone younger (which says a lot, given my age) and less associated with politics. There were some statements she made about Hillary being the first, that well...I wouldn’t say are entirely accurate. There’s definitely some “hat tipping†she could have done to women [of color] who broke ground and cracked ceilings, before Hillary was a household name. I think that’s what annoyed me the most about bits and pieces of it.She included basic advice – lessons you’ll learn as you spend time at the grunt level and management level of politics. It’s also written very informally, so it doesn’t come across much like a teaching tool.
Jennifer looks at the election of 2016, analyzes what happened and leaves us with a blueprint for both optimism and change. I highly recommend this book.
This book offers advice for every woman who wants to be the best she can be at whatever she does. I enjoyed the tidbits from Palmieri’s personal experiences as communications director for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign and working in the Clinton & Obama administrations. But don’t let your personal politics keep you from reading this book. The suggestions work for everyone. I wish every woman could have a copy of this book because the world would be a better place if all women could go forward feeling encouraged & inspired. Read it! Gift it!
If you are a women between the ages of 20-30 you should most definitely read this book right now. It’s a quick read, but very insightful and makes lots of good points about tho GS that may seem little but could lead to great change in the workplace if all were to embrace them.
