Excellent book for an old time favorite
First off let me say that I am one of the biggest Metroid fans out there and Super Metroid is my favorite game ever and if you are writing a book about it, it demands perfection!! I was really excited when I saw that this book came out, and wanted to add it to my collection, so I bought it only to be a little disappointed. The information in this book is good, the layout is something to be a little desired for, but the pictures are very nice and clear and sometimes helpful. My main issue with the book is the multiple spelling errors, misinformation and facts that make it loose 3 stars. Right off the bat on the first page there are spelling errors, it is very unprofessional and makes me think that the author did not go back and reread everything to make sure that everything was correct or gave it to someone to check these basic things.For example, on the "Boss page" for Draygon, in one of the sentences he calls the creature Draygon and Dragon in the same sentence. Which is it? He also calls it a "He" when in fact it is female. Not only that, the author says that one of her attacks is that she picks Samus up and slams her against the wall. This is misinformation and untrue. Draygon does NOT do that and rather slams Samus with her tail. It is also mentioned that "green balls" come out from the wall. Like rubber balls? No these are energy balls.There are tips all over the book which is a nice touch, but I really thing more research would benefit. For example it says that Gunpei Yokoi was the only creator of Metroid when in fact it was a team of 4 people who came up with the franchise.Yes you may think these are nitpicking aspects but it is riddled all throughout the book which is very unfortunate. Seriously, if you are going to write about Super Metroid, it demands perfection as the game is perfection, and the lack of a spell check is very sloppy and unprofessional. I really wanted to like this book but I simply cannot recommend it due to these facts, I would say for you to rather go and buy the Official one!
Really great guide, especially for someone going back and playing the classics after a very long time. Concise walkthrough with photos, very helpful.
OKAY AS A HELPER
First thing let just say how much I appreciate the author and all of the great extremely hard work he puts in every single Guide Book he has written so far. I have taken my time in reading this particular Guide Book as it is one of my Favorite games. I not only read it but decided to put it to the test and play the game using only this guide book. And just let me tell you that the author has really done his homework in regards to the amount of detail he has put in the book. I was able to complete the game with little to no effort. He truly is an artist in his writing ability and his choices in the artwork that he put in this over 100 page guide book. In my final thought I would like to say that if you are not sure if you are not sure if you should get not only the kindle version but the paperback book, just let me tell you this is definitely a must have for any Retro Gamer and any gamer for that matter. Thank You BlackNesGuy for all that you do for the Retro Gamers and all others, you are a true inspiration to all writers out there. GAME ON
